The Paducah Bank Teen of the Week scholarship program has returned for the 2019-2020 school year.
The Paducah Sun will recognize 32 area high school seniors throughout the year and profile them in an annual story series, sponsored by the bank. These feature stories will highlight the student's accomplishments, passions, future plans and other aspirations. The stories and photos will be published weekly in Monday's online edition and Tuesday's print edition.
At the end of the school year, a committee will select one Teen of the Week honoree as Teen of the Year, who will receive a $5,000 scholarship. An Inspirational Award and scholarship - worth $1,000 - will be presented to an additional student.
"An education is the best investment any individual can make," said Joe Framptom, Paducah Bank CEO. "The time each of us spends in seeking to learn about ourselves, our world and our community takes us ever nearer to a brighter future and higher quality of life. At Paducah Bank, we know that any support we can give towards this endeavor for our youth is of the highest value to us all."
Who makes a Teen of the Week?
There isn't a specific criteria and many different factors might be taken into consideration. A student's class ranking, test scores and academic achievements play an important role, but the Teen of the Week scholarship program also looks at extracurricular involvement, such as sports, church group, band and choir, student government or another activity. It additionally considers work in the community, volunteer efforts, leadership, resiliency, employment and any other qualities students may have.
Teen of the Week nominations are only accepted from area high school guidance counselors. School counselors are often familiar with a student's unique talents, work ethic and how classmates and teachers view them, which goes beyond grade point average or resume information. The Sun is currently accepting nominations and will continue accepting them until Feb. 15, 2020.
Contact the Sun at 270-575-8666 or [email protected] for more information regarding this scholarship program or about how to submit nominations.
