Maurie McGarvey, Senior Vice President and Director of Talent and Culture at Paducah Bank, is one of only 51 professionals from 14 countries and the only Kentuckian accepted into Google's 2017 Search Inside Yourself Leadership Institute’s (SIYLI) Engage Program.  She will travel to San Francisco on Monday for the first of several sessions over the next six months.

Tanea Flanders, Senior Director of Leadership Programs at Columbia University, says "this program has the most elite program designers, workshop facilitators, and experiential-mindfulness teachers that I’ve ever heard in my 20-year career. I’ve been given tools to bring to the executives I coach to help change their lives. And when we do that, we change the world.”

The program was originally created at Google and is one of their most popular training programs. It was developed by Chade Meng-Tan, a Google engineer and author of the New York Times bestselling book, Search Inside Yourself, together with a Stanford University neuroscientist and a Zen teacher. This globally recognized program is a highly interactive course that blends evidence-based mindfulness and neuroscience with a focus on emotional intelligence to awaken the best in people and organizations.

McGarvey says Paducah Bank always looks for creative and forward-thinking ideas and tools to create an award-winning culture that benefits both itsteammates and customers.  She cites the Bank's original commitment to Jim Collins' book, Good to Great, and the Ritz Carlton Learning Center as culture-building programs that remain an integral part of the Bank’s culture. Paducah Bank’s focus on culture eventually led them to being named the Best Place to Work in Kentucky among medium-sized companies and being chosen by the Wall Street Journal as one of the Top 15 Small Workplaces in North America.

"At the Search Inside Yourself advanced mindful leadership program, I’ll develop the knowledge, tools, and leadership capacities to bring the benefits of mindfulness based emotional intelligence (MBEI) to our workplace," said McGarvey. “Additionally, this program offers an experience of deep personal development, assists with positively shifting team dynamics, and will help our organization to thrive."

Paducah Bank President Mardie Herndon encouraged McGarvey to participate in the program.  "This is a significant continuation of our talent development strategy as we embrace new directions of coaching, seek greater influence across communication channels and strive to be the employer of choice for the best and brightest.  This type of effort takes intentional thought leadership and we look forward to implementing what we learn from Google's creativity," said Herndon.

SIYLI teaches tools for focus, self-awareness, and resilience with a growth-oriented mindset. It is backed by world experts in neuroscience, mindfulness, and emotional intelligence skills which lead to sustained peak performance, strong collaboration, and navigating challenges more effectively.

Paducah Bank is an award-winning, locally-owned bank with locations in the city and county.  The Bank has six locations throughout the community and employs 130 people.  Paducah Bank is currently the top small business lender and the top mortgage lender in Paducah/McCracken County and has been recognized with several award for their social media efforts.
