A fund has been established at Paducah Bank for a monument to honor all local men and women who have served their country during the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. The location of the monument has not been decided, but Dolly McNutt Memorial Plaza is being considered as an option. Nathan Torian of Paducah, retired Paducah Fire Chief Leon Dodge, and Hardy Gentry of American Legion Post 31 are spearheading the effort to build the monument. Torian’s brother, Master Sgt. Aaron Torian, was killed in Afghanistan on February 15, 2014. Other local casualties of these wars who will be memorialized include Sgt. Christopher Heflin of McCracken County who died in the line of duty in Fallujah, Iraq on November 16, 2004.
So far the fund has received donations from the City of Paducah and the McCracken County Fiscal Court of $15,000 each. Anyone wishing to contribute to the fund can send donations to: Operation Enduring Freedom Memorial Fund, c/o Paducah Bank, 555 Jefferson St., Paducah, KY 42001. Paducah Bank is proud to be involved in honoring our brave service men and women.
